Ginger
"Hi,
I wanted to update you on Ginger. (This is Teddy's sister). She is about 9 months old now and growing like a weed! She is so very smart and loves to go on long walks. Obedience training was a breeze with her; however it all goes out the window when she gets near a body of water. She absolutely loves to swim! She is the apple of our eyes. Curious about her breed mix, I had the canine heritage breed test done. It turns out that no Chow shows up in her DNA. She has 25-50% Labrador Retriever (Yellow -Red Fox, obviously), and no less than 25% Australian Shepherd. Her ancestry shows minuscule amounts of Doberman, Beagle, and Border Collie. Her behavior is very much, lab. She's the best dog ever! Thank you for her."

"The most amazing thing happened yesterday, really one of those "meant to be" situations we see so often in rescue. Through a series of odd coincidences, this lady called us yesterday .. she had just had to have her elderly Golden put to sleep, is grieving hard, and thru some mutual acquaintance of our daughter, learned we were fostering a puppy. My husband left me a long message to call her when I got back in. I did, spoke to both husband and wife, learned that the Golden they had so recently lost had been adopted from NRGRR 8 years ago, so that was a big plus for them right away. They asked if they could come right over and meet Natalie (Grace), and of course I said yes. They were here in 20 minutes (they live in north Raleigh and we are in south Raleigh closer to Cary) and check this out: when they came up to the glass front door, Natalie was standing there smiling and wagging her tail. She almost immediately went to Nancy the wife, even jumped up on the couch next to her and gave her a kiss! No submissive peeing or signs of fear! Duke and I were shocked, but as we so often see, it's best to let the dog select their new owner. They have no other dogs currently, have an acre lot in a great section of town, have invisible fence as we do. They want a dog to be with them all the time, will let her sleep with them if she wants to. Ha! Very attractive couple in their late 40s I'd guess and if things go smoothly with Natalie (whose name they will be changing by the way), they will likely get another dog as a companion for her, which I think would be wise.
So ... we had to get a new application from them and that is being processed now, they want me to keep her thru spaying which I am happy to do, but I really think we've found the right people for Natalie. I sent them the Saving Grace video and I'm sure it touched them. Just amazing how puppy took to these people at once cuz she has met other visitors who dropped by and, though she was friendly and all, she was not wanting them to touch her at all. I'll let you know as things progress, but I knew you'd be happy to hear this news about little sweet girl. She knows "sit" and "come" now .. still resists leash walking and I don't know what it will take, but I think these folks, Jim and Nancy Craig, will take her to obedience school which would probably be smart." -- Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue
